Over Wyre is the collective name given to a group of villages situated on the Fylde, to the north of the River Wyre. The group is usually considered to include:
- Hambleton
- Stalmine
- Knott End-on-Sea
- Preesall
- Pilling
- Out Rawcliffe
The name distinguishes these villages from the larger southern part of the Fylde, between the Wyre and the Ribble, which includes the urban areas of Blackpool, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton, Cleveleys and Fleetwood.
Hambleton is a village seven miles north-east of Blackpool. The village is on the A588 road and the nearest town is Poulton-le-Fylde.
Stalmine is a village located on a small hill on the A588, the main road between Hambleton and Lancaster. The village name has been spelt Stalmin (in 1205) and Stalemynne (in 1278). The village has one pub, named The Seven Stars Hotel.
Knott End-on-Sea is a village situated on the southern side of Morecambe Bay, across the Wyre estuary from Fleetwood. Although there is no through road (to get there one has to pass through neighbouring Preesall), the village is in fact the main commercial centre for the Over Wyre area. As well as a variety of shops and cafes, Knott End has its own pub (the Bourne Arms), county library, NatWest bank and golf club. Buses run regularly from Knott End to Blackpool, Garstang, Lancaster and Fleetwood, and there is also a seasonal three-minute ferry crossing to Fleetwood. Knott End also has two clubs, The Squash and Knott End Working Mens Club.
Preesall is a village that covers the eastern bank of the estuary of the River Wyre, including Knott End-on-Sea, Pilling Lane and the village of Preesall itself. Preesall has three pubs, The Saracens Head, The Fernhill and The Black Bull. The village has three schools - a secondary and two primary schools.
Pilling is a village 6.5 miles north-northeast of Poulton-le-Fylde, 9.4 miles south-southwest of Lancaster and 14.5 miles northwest of Preston. Pilling has two pubs: The Elletson Arms in Stakepool and The Golden Ball in the village. There are also several churches, including St. John the Baptist Church (Church of England) in the village, St. William's Church (Catholic) in Stakepool, and the Pilling Methodist Church in the village. There are two primary schools: Pilling St. John's Church of England Primary School and St. William's, both associated with the respective churches.
Out Rawcliffe is a village and is the location of the medieval Rawcliffe Hall. There is one Anglican church, Out Rawcliffe St John Church. The village also has one school, Out Rawcliffe Church of England Primary School, a village hall which stages a monthly quiz night and a post office.
